A key characteristic of most tapeless media workflows is the content (‘the essence’ as labeled in many media standards) only exists as digital files. The original source media (P2 cards, etc.) are typically reused because of their costs. To assure that the content is safe and always accessible, the best practice is to maintain multiple copies of the files, at least one of those copies on LTO tape. The Industry is rife with stories of content lost when portable hard drives fail or sit on shelves and then refuse to spin up. A hybrid NAS Tape solution can provide easy accessibility combined with LTO/LTFS reliability and economics.
